The Relationship between Dual Role Conflict and Husbands’ Social Support on Work Stress Levels among Female Police Officers in the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) of the Indonesian National Police, Kelapa Dua, Depok

Background: Work stress arises when occupational demands exceed an individual’s coping capacity. Female police officers are required to manage high job demands while simultaneously fulfilling domestic responsibilities, which may lead to dual role conflict and contribute to work-related stress. Although husbands’ social support is assumed to mitigate stress, empirical evidence regarding its influence remains inconsistent.
Aims: To analyse the relationship between dual role conflict and husbands’ social support and work stress levels among female police officers in the Mobile Brigade Corps of the Indonesian National Police.
Methods: This quantitative study employed a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 37 female police officers were recruited using total sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires measuring dual role conflict, husbands’ social support, and work stress. The associations between variables were examined using the Chi-square test.
Results: Most respondents reported low dual role conflict (64.9%) and good husbands’ social support (83.8%), while the majority experienced mild work stress (70.3%). Statistical analysis revealed a significant association between dual role conflict and work stress (p = 0.000; OR = 24.750). In contrast, no significant association was found between husbands’ social support and work stress (p = 0.051).
Conclusion: Dual role conflict is significantly associated with work stress among female police officers, whereas husbands’ social support is not. Interventions focusing on work–family role management may help reduce work stress in this population.
