Author Guidelines

Aims and Scope

Blambangan Journal of Nursing and Health Sciences (BJNHS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes high-quality scholarly work advancing nursing and health sciences. The journal welcomes original contributions from nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, medical laboratory technology, public health, and other health-related disciplines, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary research that advances healthcare practice, education, leadership, health systems, and policy.

BJNHS publishes original research articles, systematic and other evidence syntheses, methodological studies, and case reports/case series. All submissions must demonstrate scientific originality, methodological rigor, ethical integrity, and significant contributions to the advancement of nursing and health sciences.

Types of Manuscripts

BJNHS accepts the following manuscript types:

• Original Research Articles
• Systematic Reviews
• Scoping Reviews
• Meta-analyses
• Qualitative Research
• Mixed Methods Research
• Case Reports
• Short Communications
• Letters to the Editor

Language

All manuscripts must be written in English using clear, concise, and grammatically correct academic language.

Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally edited before submission.

Submission Files

Authors must upload two separate Microsoft Word files during submission.

1. Title Page

The Title Page should include:

• Manuscript title
• Full names of all authors
• Institutional affiliations
• Corresponding author’s name and email address
• ORCID iD (recommended)
• Ethics Approval
• Funding
• Acknowledgments
• Authors’ Contributions

2. Main Document

The Main Document must not contain any information that identifies the authors to ensure a double-anonymous peer-review process.

Manuscript Preparation

Authors must prepare their manuscript using the official BJNHS Manuscript Template.

The manuscript should be organized in the following order:

1. Title
2. Abstract
3. Keywords
4. Introduction
5. Materials and Methods
6. Results
7. Discussion
8. Conclusion
9. Data Availability Statement
10. Conflict of Interest
11. References
12. Tables
13. Figures

Title

The title should be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the content of the study.

Avoid abbreviations wherever possible.

Abstract

The abstract should not exceed 250 words.

Original research articles should use the following structured headings:

• Background
• Aims
• Methods
• Results
• Conclusion

Avoid citations and undefined abbreviations.

Provide 3–6 keywords arranged alphabetically and separated by semicolons.

Introduction

The Introduction should:

• provide sufficient background information;
• summarize current evidence relevant to the topic;
• identify the knowledge gap;
• explain the rationale for the study;
• clearly state the study objective(s) or research question(s).

Avoid an extensive literature review.

Materials and Methods

The Methods section should provide sufficient detail to enable the study to be replicated.

The following subsections are recommended:

• Study Design
• Study Setting
• Participants and Sampling
• Data Collection
• Data Analysis

For clinical trials, provide the trial registration number and registry where applicable.

Information regarding ethics approval and informed consent should be provided on the Title Page.

Results

Present the findings objectively and logically without interpretation.

Authors should:

• report findings according to the study objectives;
• avoid duplicating data presented in tables or figures;
• cite all tables and figures sequentially;
• report statistical analyses appropriately.

Statistical symbols should be italicized (e.g., t, F, χ², r, β, OR, RR, p, M, SD, N, n).

Discussion

Interpret the findings in relation to previous research.

The Discussion should include:

• interpretation of the principal findings;
• comparison with previous studies;
• possible explanations for similarities or differences;
• implications for nursing practice, education, management, or health policy;
• strengths and limitations of the study;
• recommendations for future research.

Avoid repeating the Results section.

Conclusion

The Conclusion should briefly summarize the principal findings and directly address the study objective(s). It should highlight the significance and implications of the findings without introducing new data or citations.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should:

• be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals;
• include concise and informative titles or legends;
• be cited sequentially in the text;
• be editable (tables should not be submitted as images);
• be placed after the References section.

Figures should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

References

BJNHS uses the APA 7th Edition referencing style.

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as EndNote, Mendeley, or Zotero.

Whenever possible:

• include DOI for journal articles;
• use primary literature;
• ensure that most references are recent and relevant to the study.

Reporting Guidelines

To improve the completeness, transparency, and quality of reporting, authors should prepare their manuscripts according to internationally recognized reporting guidelines appropriate to the study design. Completed reporting checklists should be submitted as supplementary files whenever applicable.

The following reporting guidelines are recommended:

Authors are encouraged to consult the EQUATOR Network for the latest reporting guidance relevant to their study design.

Manuscripts that do not adequately comply with the appropriate reporting guideline may be returned for technical revision before peer review.

Ethical Considerations

Research involving human participants or animals must comply with internationally accepted ethical standards.

Authors should provide:

• the name of the ethics committee or institutional review board (IRB);
• ethics approval number;
• informed consent statement, where applicable.

If ethics approval or informed consent was not required, authors should clearly state this on the Title Page.

Data Availability Statement

Authors must include a statement describing the availability of the data supporting the findings of the study.

Examples include:

• data are publicly available in a repository;
• data are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request;
• data are restricted because of ethical or legal considerations;
• no datasets were generated or analysed.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest.

If no conflicts exist, please state:

The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Publication Ethics

BJNHS follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics. Authors are expected to ensure originality of their work and to avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, and other forms of research misconduct. Suspected ethical misconduct will be handled in accordance with COPE recommendations.

Submission Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that:

☐ The manuscript fits the aims and scope of BJNHS.

☐ The manuscript is written in clear academic English.

☐ The manuscript follows the official BJNHS Manuscript Template.

☐ The Title Page and Main Document are uploaded separately.

☐ The Main Document contains no author-identifying information.

☐ The abstract follows the required structured format.

☐ References are formatted according to APA 7th Edition.

☐ Tables and figures are cited sequentially and placed after the References.

☐ The manuscript complies with the appropriate reporting guideline (e.g., CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA 2020, PRISMA-ScR, COREQ/SRQR, CARE, STARD, SQUIRE, ARRIVE, CHEERS, or SPIRIT).

☐ A Data Availability Statement is included.

☐ A Conflict-of-Interest statement is included.

☐ Ethics approval information is provided on the Title Page, where applicable.

☐ All authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript.
